DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday\, April 4 – CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHERStart Time: 5:30pmStart Location: King Park\, 915 W Wascher Dr\, Urbana \n\n\n\nThe Urbana and Champaign Park Districts invite the community to our annual March for Peace! \n\n\n\nThe Martin Luther King\, Jr. March for Peace will begin at 5:30 p.m.\, at King Park (honoring Dr. King)\, and people will march to the Champaign Park District’s Douglass Park\, highlighting Dr. King’s message of peace.  \n\n\n\nThe Urbana Free Library will have an exhibit from the Champaign County Historical Archives at the Douglass Annex for attendees to view. Park District and other designated officials from both Champaign and Urbana will make remarks at each site.  \n\n\n\nThe Champaign Park District will provide transportation between King Park and the Douglass Park so marchers can return to their cars at the end of the evening. Attendees who choose not to march can park their car at Douglass and will be transported to King Park for opening remarks and back to Douglass for closing remarks\, refreshments and the opportunity to view the exhibit provided by Urbana Free Library.

DESCRIPTION:Join Champaign Park District staff and local master naturalists to help plant 74 trees in Heritage Park! \n\n\n\nThe Heritage Park planting is made possible by a grant through the Lumpkin Family Foundation’s Nature-based Climate Action Program. The District received $12\,000 from the Foundation for tree plantings in 2026. The District will use approximately half of the 2026 grant funds at Heritage Park\, and the remaining funds will be used for tree planting later this fall. Details on the second planting will be announced at a later date. \n\n\n\nThis is the fourth consecutive year that the Lumpkin Family Foundation has awarded the District grant funding for tree plantings. The District has received $36\,200 in cumulative funding from the Foundation to plant over 400 trees in local parks.

DESCRIPTION:Champaign Park District invites community members to attend a public meeting to discuss the replacement of the Wesley Park playground. The meeting will take place on Thursday\, April 30\, at 6pm at the Douglass Annex (804 N Fifth St). \n\n\n\nCommunity members will have the opportunity to provide feedback on proposed playground equipment presented by Nutoys Leisure Products. Children are encouraged to attend. \n\n\n\nThe Park District’s playground redesign will align with future improvements to the Martin Luther King Trail\, a project led by the City of Champaign. The new playground will be relocated to a more central location within the park’s green space. The redesign will also prioritize modern equipment for children ages 2-12 and feature fixtures different from those in nearby parks.   \n\n\n\nConstruction is targeted to begin in August or September 2026 and will be completed by October 2026.   \n\n\n\nWesley Park is located at 915 N Third St and is 2.8 acres. Park amenities include substantial green space\, the playground\, a path system\, and basketball courts. Families\, kids\, and adults of all ages are invited to get up close with trucks\, emergency vehicles\, construction equipment\, and more. Meet the people who operate these machines\, ask questions\, and even get inside for a hands-on experience.
