Leonhard Recreation Center opened to the public in 2014 and was funded in part by the Park and Recreational Facility Construction Grant Program, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, with additional geothermal mechanical system funding provided by The Illinois Clean Energy Foundation. The energy efficient geothermal system transfers heat by pumping water through pipes below the Earth’s surface. During the winter, the piped water absorbs underground warmth and brings heat to the building. In the summer, it is reversed for air conditioning!

1. Indoor Track
One of the primary features of the Leonhard Recreation Center is an indoor three-lane track (10-11 laps= 1 mile).
2. Weight Room
This well equipped facility also includes a Cardio/Weight Room featuring numerous ellipticals, treadmills, exercise bikes, weight machines, free weights and more.
3. Champaign Bark District Memberships
Your furry friends need to get moving too! Become a member of the Champaign Bark District at Leonhard Recreation Center then take your 2022 fitness partner to the park. Visit our Dog Park Membership Page for more info.
4. Volunteer Coach
Are you passionate about sports? Be a volunteer coach and share your love of the game with kids in the community. In our youth sports programs, we believe that winning has less to do with the scoreboard and more to do with core values of Sportsmanship, Opportunity, Fun and Instruction. As a Champaign Park District coach, we expect that you’ll emulate these values and keep fit and have fun along the way.

5. Indoor Playground
- Bring the whole family to try the farm-themed indoor playground. Enjoy the three levels of interactive features like a slide, wrecking ball, tractor, and log obstacles. Great for ages 1-10, the playground also features a toddler area, book tree, Legos, and sensory games.

6. Gymnasium
Our Gymnasium is a great place to get moving with our basketball, pickleball, and volleyball court access.

When you have some peace of mind the kiddos in your life have a safe place to go after school and on their days off, it’s easier to maintain your own goals and make room for yourself in 2022! Youth Scholarship Program Available!
Because some residents are unable to participate in recreation programs due to financial barriers, the Champaign Park District offers scholarships to reduce certain fees and charges. Youth Scholarship Program applicants are not guaranteed fund availability, program registration or choice of program location. Early applications are given priority. Need is the primary criterion upon which scholarship applicants are considered.

Leonhard Recreation Center offers both monthly and yearly options for membership payments.
Monthly & Annual Memberships Include:
- Indoor Track access during all open hours
