The Dodds Tennis Center features six indoor courts, locker rooms with showers and towel service, a Wilson Pro Shop, great staff, and a vast array of programs including private lessons, clinics, and drop-in workouts. Our programming covers a wide range of ages and skill levels from young children to seniors, experienced players to those who’ve never held a racquet.
Holiday Closures
Dodds Tennis Center is a seasonal facility that is open from September through May. The facility closes in observance of the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Thanksgiving
- Black Friday
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
The facility opens at Noon on Easter and closes at 5:30pm on New Year’s Eve.

The expert tennis instructors at the Dodds Tennis Center offer a variety of programs and leagues for all ages and all ability levels. There's something to fit nearly every schedule, budget, and skill level.

The Dodds Tennis Center Pro Shop is an exclusive Wilson distributor – visit us for great deals on Wilson merchandise! We also offer racquet stringing, Wilson demo racquet rentals, ball hopper and ball cart rentals, and Wilson tennis balls for sale.
Outdoor Tennis
The Champaign Park District maintains both lighted and unlighted outdoor tennis courts in a variety of park locations. Find an Outdoor Tennis Court near you.
History
- From 1991 – 1994 the Champaign Park District leased the building from the Racquet Club.
- The Park District purchased the facility, named the Tennis Center, for $575,000 after the lease period ended.
- In 2013 the facility was renamed the Newt Dodds Tennis Center to honor Park District Commissioner Newt Dodds for his 38 years of service on the Park Board.

Other Ways to Play
Permanent Court Time: Permanent Court Time is available to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be live when registration opens for the next semester. Apply online or print out an application and turn it in at the front desk.
Random Court Time: Random Court Time is available for reservations one week in advance.
Private Lessons: Private lessons are available by appointment (must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance). Players may request to have a lesson on specific strokes, game play, a particular skill, or a combination of items. Sign up for private lessons online, email Yuri Sohn at yuri.sohn@champaignparks.org, or call 217-819-3993.
Workouts & Clinics: In addition to private and group lessons, we also offer clinics for children, adults, and seniors playing at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Our drop-in workouts include the Monday Lunch Club, Ladies Day, Thursday Late Night & Intermediate Workouts, Saturday Morning Workout, and more - there's something for everyone at the Dodds Tennis Center!
