Friday, May 15 is a majorly fun day for Champaign Park District! Here are the 2 registration deadlines and 2 events you don’t want to miss on May 15:
1. Rocket League Competition Deadline to Register
Get ready for Champaign Park District’s first ever FREE 3 v 3 Rocket League competition! Rocket League is a fast-paced video game where players fly around the field playing soccer while driving race cars! Register your team of 3 for some friendly online (and safe) competition. We have beginner, medium, and advanced divisions for players of all skill levels. Games will start on May 23 and will be on Saturday afternoons at 2p with the top teams competing for the championship in a single day playoff from 2-5p on June 20 after a 4-week regular season.
Play from the comfort of your home but make sure you sign up by the registration deadline on May 15!
2. Summer Youth Programs in a Bag/Summer Adventures @ Home Deadline to Register
The first week (May 26-29) of in-person summer youth programs has been cancelled, but we have put together a fun, interactive virtual program for kids ages 6-11:
Summer Youth Programs in a Bag:
Douglass Community Center and Springer Cultural Center have teamed up with Community Matters to create Summer Youth Programs in a Bag! Each activity bag will have an indoor activity, outdoor activity, STEAM activity, virtual field trip, craft, and family activity for each day of Summer Youth Programs.
Summer Adventures @ Home:
Your child will receive fun, interactive activities for the week, including 2 hours (1 hour, 2 times/week) of virtual staff-led activities that keep your kids active and socializing with their “camp friends.”
3. CUSR joins South West Special Recreation Association’s Virtual Dance Party – Deadline to register is May 13!
On May 15, South West Special Recreation Association is hosting a Virtual Dance Party with a DJ and would love for Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation participants and staff to join! Everyone will be on mute except the DJ. She will put on a light show and music for an hour of fun. This event is for teens and adults (participants and staff!). The event is free and will be through Zoom.
You must be registered to join. If you would like to register, please e-mail Cherish McMullen at cherish.mcmullen@champaignparks.org with the full name of the participants(s) wishing to join and an e-mail address to contact them at. The deadline to register is May 13th.
The day of the dance, Cherish will e-mail the Zoom link to all of the registered participants. You can use that link to join from 7-8PM.
4. Virtual Friday Night Flix: Jurassic Park
Our park screening of Jurassic Park may be cancelled.. but we still want to watch those crazy acid spitting dinos get wild with our friends! SO – stream it, pop in the DVD, or be kind and rewind that VHS on May 15.
In addition to this virtual watch party, we’ll be compiling some fun activities like trivia and crafts to really feel like we’re in this together. Follow along on this event page for more info on that to come!
