Starting preschool is a significant milestone for both children and parents. It marks the beginning of an exciting journey filled with learning, exploration, and growth. We want to make sure you and your little one are prepared and ready to embrace this new chapter with confidence and enthusiasm.
1. Visit Together
Visit the school before the first day of school. Explore the classroom or play on the playground. By doing this, school will be familiar place on the first day!
2. Practice Separating
Saying goodbye can be difficult for both you and your child. Try to keep it quick and positive and reassure your child that you will see each other soon. We also recommend creating a goodbye routine. Try a fun handshake or a special song!
3. Read Books About Preschool
Sometimes the best way to teach your child new ideas is to read them stories about it. This may create excitement about starting preschool and about learning something new.
4. Turn Getting-Ready Skills into a Game
Practice putting on or taking off their coat, putting on their backpack and hanging it up on a hook. You could turn putting on shoes a game-see how fast you can do it. By making this into a game, you’re teaching your child valuable skills while also having fun!
5. Take a Toddler Class
Taking an early childhood class gives your child a chance to meet other children, start to learn to follow directions from another adult and help them become more comfortable with the transition to preschool.
