Champaign Park District has announced free teen-exclusive events happening this Friday night, April 3rd, at various Park District facilities. The events will include Open Gym and video games at Douglass Community Center and Leonhard Recreation Center, and a showing of A Quiet Place, rated PG-13, at the Virginia Theatre.
The April 3rd events are the first in a series of future teen events organized by Champaign Park District. The goal of the new initiative, called CU Around the District, is to prioritize teen interests, providing a third space exclusively for adolescents to socialize, connect, and access recreation throughout the community.
“The Champaign Park District’s mission is to enhance the community’s quality of life through positive experiences in parks, recreation, and cultural arts,” said Sarah Sandquist, Champaign Park District Executive Director. “CU Around the District will further this mission by offering teens accessible and safe recreation opportunities in multiple Champaign locations.”
The movie screening at the Virginia Theatre will begin at 6:30pm. Doors will open at 5:30pm. Entry is free, and patrons will receive free popcorn and soda from the concessions area.
Leonhard Recreation Center and Douglass Community Center will be open for free video gaming from 6-9pm, with free pizza and soda available while supplies last. Free Open Gym at Leonhard Recreation Center will end at 7:30pm, with Midnight Basketball following. Free Open Gym at Douglass Community Center will run all evening. All events are drop-in and will include staff supervision.
