Champaign Park District has announced that the center flower beds in Hessel Park along Kirby Avenue are getting a facelift. The wood timber borders surrounding the beds need to be replaced. The Park District is using this opportunity to redesign the shape of the beds and install long-lasting concrete curbs and new irrigation lines.
The Park District has shared that the public may witness the following work at Hessel Park from August 13 – September 11:
- Flowers will be removed from the beds.
- The existing flower beds will be demolished.
- Large trucks will bring soil into the park for new beds.
- New concrete curbs will be poured around the beds.
- New irrigation lines will be installed and tested.
“We take pride in providing our community with beautiful landscapes, which is why keeping up with flower bed maintenance is crucial,” said Erin Dietmeier, Champaign Park District Horticulture Supervisor. “We are excited to make these changes so that by next summer, the flower beds are even more stunning.”
The public is asked to use caution around the south side of Hessel Park while demolition and installation are in progress. Work areas will be clearly marked to promote pedestrian and parkgoer safety.
