Champaign Park District has announced a new spring fitness event perfect for dog lovers. The inaugural Lucky Dog 5K will take place on Saturday, March 14, at 9:30am at Heritage Park, 2101 W Bradley Ave, and welcomes runners, walkers, and dogs of all ages.
Registration options include the 5K run/walk with a dog, the 5K run/walk without a dog, and a ½-mile stroll with a dog. A costume contest will also take place before the race at 9am, and dogs and owners can compete for awards, including Best Dressed Small Dog, Best Dressed Medium Dog, Best Dressed Large Dog, and Best Overall Human & Dog Duo. After the race, participants are invited to a Bark Hour for refreshments.
“We are thrilled to bring a new dog-friendly fitness event to the community,” said Morgan Pittman, Events & Community Engagement Coordinator at Champaign Park District. “We hope this opportunity brings fitness enthusiasts and pet owners together for a fun new tradition.”
All Lucky Dog 5K registrants will receive a race shirt and medal, and dog participants will get an exclusive pop-up water bowl and bag dispenser.
