One of Champaign-Urbana’s most important and well-attended volunteer days to help naturalize and sustain our urban waterways is coming up soon. Boneyard Creek Community Day, an annual cleanup event, will take place on Saturday, April 18. Community members are invited to volunteer to clean up litter and remove invasive species at sites all over our community, including Scott Park, Kaufman Lake, Boulware Trail, and Heritage Park.
The 2025 Community Day saw 484 volunteers, litter removal over 1059.2 acres, and the collection of 86.83 cubic yards of trash. Through these collective clean-up efforts, Boneyard Creek Community Day reminds us to be stewards of our environment.
Interested parties can register online by April 17 or onsite at Scott Park on April 18. Clean-up will begin at 9am. Volunteers will enjoy a free lunch, music, and educational displays at Scott Park following the clean-up.
Boneyard Creek Community Day is a collaborative partnership among Champaign County Design and Conservation Foundation, Champaign County Soil and Water Conservation District, Champaign Park District, City of Champaign, City of Urbana, Facilities & Services of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Farnsworth Group, Keep Champaign Beautiful, Prairie Rivers Network, Rotary Club of Savoy, Urbana Park District, Village of Savoy, and Champaign County Forest Preserve.
This event is possible thanks to many community volunteers and supporting agencies. Work sites vary from those suitable for younger children to more challenging sites.
