Youth Programs
Tots, put your toy trucks away – it’s time to see the real thing! Climb in, hop on, and honk the horns of some really big trucks and other vehicles during Touch-A-Truck Day! Tow trucks, fire trucks, police cars, and more will be available for kids to explore on Wednesday, May 11th at 10am. Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic too! Please note: in case of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled.
Come out and have a BLAST at the Champaign Park District Model Rocket Workshop. Each participant will make his or her own model rocket and learn how to launch it. Rockets will be built in the morning, regardless of weather, and flown in the afternoon at Dodds Park, weather permitting on Saturday, May 14.

Prairie Farm will be opening on Saturday, May 28! The facility is a replica turn-of-the century farm complete with barn, farmhouse, pond, pasture, & flower garden. Admission is free and the Farm is open to the general public from Memorial Day to early August and features a variety of your child’s favorite animals including cows, horses, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens, llamas, donkeys, miniature horses, peacocks, rabbits, turtles, turkey, and a beautifully established koi pond.

Wiggle, Giggle, Climb & Play is a physical activity class for fun and learning. Creative movement, basic ball skills, musical games, and combination parent tot exercises will be included. A variety of equipment will be available for parent-tot play after the organized activities in the preschool playscape on Thursdays beginning May 26. Parents may participate with their child.

Activity-filled days for kids, worry-free days for parents. Summer Youth Program participants will enjoy a variety of activities such as sport activities, games, weekly pool days, and field trips. Our spots are filling up fast! Make sure to get your spot or add yourself to the wait list soon. Programs begin May 31 and run through August 5.

Sports & Fitness
The Champaign Park District is excited to bring Women’s Basketball Leagues back to the community! Come join the fun, meet new people, and stay in shape over friendly competition. Experience the great atmosphere of the Leonhard Recreation Center’s Gymnasium this summer. The league runs from June 16 to July 16, 2022 with weekly games and a playoff week. Players can join together as a team or register individually as free agents.

Improve and enhance your body’s strength, flexibility and balance as we focus on the whole body at Hatha Yoga. This gentle class that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays will also help relieve stress and tension as we learn yoga postures, meditation and breathing exercises. Class begins May 3.

We are pumped to bring Strength Training back to the Leonhard Recreation Center. Tone and sculpt your whole body. Participants learn the building blocks you need to help you transform your body. This class takes place on Tuesday and Thursday beginning May 10 and is designated for all fitness levels.

The weather is changing and it’s time to start our trips back up. This month’s Daycation will be an Amish Adventure to Arthur, Illinois on Wednesday, May 25. We’ll tour Arthur and have lunch at Yoder’s Kitchen. Van space is limited, so hurry and register! All trips start from Douglass Annex.

Champaign Urbana Ballet returns with something new and exciting in 2022! Inspired by the original Hans Christen Anderson story—but with a happy ending—CU Ballet presents The Little Mermaid, a magical adventure for the whole family! Performances take place on Friday, May 6 and May 7 at the Virginia Theatre.

It’s time for Summer Concerts! Gather your friends, family, and neighbors for our Summer Concert Series. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and refreshments. May Concerts include Edison Middle School Bands at Hessel Park on Saturday, May 7 and the Chip McNeill Quartet at Heritage Park on Thursday, May 19. Both events are free and open to the public.
Explore and enjoy this special and life changing time in your life at Preparing for Birth! Learn exercises, massage techniques and other comfort measures during pregnancy and labor. Based on the Lamaze Philosophy of six healthy birth practices, you will learn to make informed decisions based on the latest scientific evidence in this class on Thursdays beginning May 19. Partners are not required but need to register if participating.

The Sholem Aquatic Center is the area’s premier place to beat the summer heat! This year’s season runs from Saturday, May 28 – Monday, September 5, 2022 with limited hours when Unit 4 schools are in session. Buy a Season Pass or get a Punch Card for the best rates. Sholem features a zero depth pool with play-and-spray features, an 8-lane 25-yard lap pool, a kiddie pool with slide, a tube slide that’ll send you into the lazy river, and enclosed body slides (must be at least 42” tall to ride). Visit the concession stand with plenty of seating in the sun or shade.
