Champaign Park District’s operations staff have temporarily removed a popular sculpture from Hessel Park this spring. The sculpture—called Sprout and designed by Ben Pierce—will get refurbished by GS Custom Studio before returning to its home in the southwest corner of the park.
Barham Benefit Group was Sprout’s original sponsor and continues to sponsor maintenance through the Champaign Parks Foundation. 40North will also work with Champaign Park District to replace Sprout’s plaque.
The 9-foot steel green sculpture was installed at Hessel Park in late 2019. The piece is particularly memorable for its sparkling finish.
