Last week, Champaign Park District staff identified a significant amount of damage to two trees at West Side Park. This damage is clearly human-made and will result in the death of several trees planted in the early 1970s that provide shade to our park-users and environmental benefits to our community.
The Champaign Park District has reported this damage to the Champaign Police Department for investigation. As a reminder to park-users, if you see any suspicious activity in our parks, including West Side Park, please do not hesitate to contact police at 217-333-8911.
The damage to these trees will result in thousands of dollars in damages, along with an environmental impact due to the loss of two mature trees. We encourage all to be stewards of our green spaces. Please help us protect them for future generations!
