Champaign Park District has been named a recipient of a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that will be used toward Human Kinetics Park improvements.
Grant funds will finance outdoor sports fields and courts, a path system, shelter, and playground. These outdoor recreation improvements are part of the overall Martens Center and Human Kinetics Park project, scheduled to begin construction in spring 2020.
“The planned improvements at Human Kinetics Park started with a generous $4.4 million donation from Rainer and Julie Martens to build a community center that will make a great impact in north Champaign. The ability to fund the outdoor amenities through this grant is a tremendous win for the overall project and our entire community,” stated Joe DeLuce, Champaign Park District’s Executive Director.
